Car Window Tinting – Tips to Prolong their Life

Jul 17, 2020 Car Service & Repair Blog PitStopArabia

Car window tints are one of the ways to improve your vehicle’s external appearance. Whether you admit it or not, there is something special about a vehicle rolling down the street with dark windows. Apart from the theatrics, tints also ensure privacy and block the sunlight from coming into the vehicle. It might not seem like a big deal. However, driving in the UAE summers is no easy task. Any respite is most welcome!

But we have already discussed the benefits of window tinting, and the legal percentage in UAE for tints in previous articles. Therefore, instead of repeating the same information again, let’s discuss something else today. In this article, PitStopArabia will discuss how to properly care for your window tints. These tints can help you prolong their life.

Window Cleaning

You should make sure to clean your car windows frequently. You can either clean them separately or during car wash. The purpose of cleaning the window is to remove the dirt and debris that gets attached to the window due to which streak is caused and looks bad on the window of the car. Streak is caused when you do not clean the debris off your window regularly. You can use a squeegee for better, effective cleaning.

Use a soft cloth

When cleaning your windows, do not use hard cloth to wipe water or dust. A hard or rough cloth can damage the window tint by peeling it off. To avoid this, it is recommended to use a microfiber cloth to clean your windows without causing any kind of damage. Moreover, using a hard cloth can cause scratches on the window tint. While tints are inexpensive, replacing the window will cost a small fortune.

Avoid Chemicals

Avoid using car shampoos or compounds that contain ammonia in it. Ammonia causes damage to the window tint by developing bubbles on the tint or fading of colour which looks really bad. Use ammonia only when you are trying to peel off the window tint. There are many products available in the market that can be used on tints.

Avoid Direct Sunlight

Even though window tints are installed to avoid sunlight from entering inside the car and to keep the car temperature cool inside, sunlight can damage the window tints. Why? Well, sometimes the sun rays are too strong, especially during the summer. So try to park your car in a shade and avoid direct sunlight to avoid damage to your window tint.

Don’t roll down windows

If you recently got window tints installed, then do not roll down your windows for at least 4 days as it takes time for the tint to stick properly on the window and to avoid damage to the film. If you roll down your window, there is a high possibility that your tint might get peeled off. So keep your car vehicles rolled up for a few days and give some time to the tint to get settled on the window.
