Calcium Battery

The first battery that we have on the list is the calcium-calcium battery. The battery gets its name from the presence of calcium alloy on the plates. The advantage of these batteries is that they pose little to no danger of fluid loss. Another advantage of this battery type is that they do not lose charge as quick as the other types. However, there is one thing that you need to be careful of – overcharging. If you overcharge it, you can destroy it. These batteries can set you back for about $100.

Wet/Flooded Battery

In the case of financial constraints, you can opt for more affordable batteries. Wet or flooded batteries is one of the most affordable batteries out there. Due to their widespread use, you can find them in numerous sizes and shapes. Hence, they offer the most convenience to car owners out there. One can also use them in specific industries. The battery’s plates are insulated, thereby reducing the risk of any untoward accident. As far as the price is concerned, they are cheaper than calcium-calcium batteries. The one downside of such batteries is that they can free liquid. Resultantly, one needs to inspect/maintain it regularly. Secondly, they are prone to damage in case of sudden shock.

Deep Cycle Batteries

If you own a recreational vehicle (RV), golf car, or an electrical vehicle (EV), then there is a high probability that you have already heard about a deep cycle battery. These batteries are well-known for their high capacity. In other words, you can use them for an extended period. These batteries can also be used for storing solar power. It is the primary reason that they are quite expensive. One downside to deep cycle batteries is that they are difficult to locate. You need to buy it from a reliable source.

VRLA

Another battery type is the valve-regulated lead-acid battery (VRLA). As the name indicates, these batteries come with a safety valve. The valve allows for a safer discharge of oxygen and hydrogen during the charging process. In other words, you do not have to worry about gas leakage or toxic fumes. While they are not specifically made for cars, you may find VLRA batteries in certain models.

Lithium-Ion Battery

Perhaps the most common car battery in hybrid and electric vehicles is the lithium-ion battery. These are extremely lightweight. One of the most notable advantages of such a battery is its low carbon footprint. Nearly every part of a lithium battery can be recycled. However, the cost of recycling is a challenge which needs to be tackled. You cannot use these batteries in pure internal combustion cars.
