How To Wash Car Engine

May 31, 2022 Car Service & Repair Blog PitStopArabia

When washing a car, most people ignore the engine. They think that since the engine is protected by the hood, it is unnecessary to clean. However, that's an incorrect approach. The engine and the bay area can accumulate dirt and dust, which must be cleaned frequently. Here’s how to wash your vehicle’s engine:

1. GET YOURSELF READY

You can get started by checking the weather. Make sure it is not too windy because dust particles will stick to the engine while it is wet. You need to make sure and cover the sensitive parts of the engine, including the battery, naked wiring, the spark plug compartment, etc. You may use plastic bags to protect the engine's critical components and prevent them from water damage.

2. USE ENGINE DEGREASER

If you start cleaning the engine with mere water, it won't give you good results. Since the engine area has a lot of debris, it is tough to remove only by scrubbing. It is better that you use an engine degreaser first. Shower your engine with hot water and then apply a degreaser. Leave the degreaser for 10-15 minutes. The debris will come off quickly without you having to struggle much.

3. CLEAN THE ENGINE

You can use a strong brush or a soft microfiber towel to clean the engine bay and engine. Use a brush on areas where there is a lot of debris which may be difficult to clean with a microfiber cloth. Otherwise, use a microfiber cloth to clean the engine as it is much safer and will not cause damage to engine parts.

4. WASH THE ENGINE

Clean the engine from any leftover dirt or debris using a garden hose. Make sure that you don't use high-pressure water on the engine, as it can damage various parts. Don't just spray water on a single part of the engine for a longer duration. Instead, sprinkle water evenly on all parts of the engine.

5. USE A BLOWER

Remove the plastic bag covering the engine and thoroughly dry every part and component of the engine with a blower. You can also use a vacuum cleaner if you don't have a blower. Keep the speed of the blower or vacuum cleaner at medium. After you are done blowing air, use a clean cloth to remove any watermarks on the engine.
