Sharjah RTA Introduces Electric Buses, Taxis, and Upcoming Teslas
Sharjah, UAE - In a remarkable push towards sustainability, Sharjah has taken significant strides to expand its eco-friendly sectors, particularly in public transport, with the introduction of fully electric vehicles and buses catering to the needs of passengers.
The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently unveiled a fleet of 10 fully electric vehicles, accompanied by two electric buses that can accommodate 27 passengers each. These initiatives begin the emirate's green transition, bolstering its commitment to a modern and environmentally conscious transportation system.
The RTA had already initiated its sustainability journey by deploying a fleet of modern and eco-friendly taxis, which are continuously upgraded to minimize their environmental impact. Presently, the RTA manages a fleet of over 750 hybrid vehicles, running on a combination of electricity and fuel to reduce emissions and protect the environment. Furthermore, the authority has greenlit the introduction of a fleet of Tesla Model S and Model 3 electric vehicles, scheduled to be launched shortly.
Sharjah aims to make its vast fleet of public transport buses and electric taxis accessible to all members of society. The services operate round the clock, effectively addressing the transportation needs of residents across various regions.
Highlighting its commitment to sustainability, the Sharjah RTA emphasized that its public transport network extends its reach to every residential community, government office, and business district in the emirate. By doing so, it ensures a convenient, reliable, and safe commuting experience for residents while safeguarding the environment from harmful pollution and damage. This dedication to environmental preservation mirrors the emirate's gradual and decisive transition towards green transport solutions.
To further facilitate green transportation, the RTA has developed a user-friendly mobile application, available on both Apple and Google Play stores. The Sharjah RTA app allows residents to monitor the estimated time of arrival for public transport vehicles and find the nearest available options, making sustainable commuting a breeze.
The RTA's ongoing efforts and strategic plans align perfectly with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the UAE's broader environmental vision. By embracing sustainable transportation, Sharjah actively contributes to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and reinforces its commitment to combating climate change.
