Is Buying Cheap Tires Risky? - Facts About Cheap Tyres
There is no doubt about the importance of tires. However, tyres are expensive to replace. If you are a person who lives on a tight budget, buying new tires can offset your budget. It is the reason that some of our customers simply ask us for the cheapest tyres available for their car make and model.
Before purchasing or immediately after buying, a common question that we hear from such customers is what risks are associated with these cheap tires. Therefore, in this article we will be aiming to answer this question.
Cheap tyres do not necessarily mean that they are low in quality or have risks associated with them. Many top tyre manufacturers produce a variety of products to target diverse types of customers. Michelin, Yokohama, Bridgestone, and others are known to produce the highest quality of tyres in the world. Even so, the prices of several of their products are quite reasonable.
The general rule is that a tyre must meet the specifications set by the relevant authorities and conforms to the established industrial tests. If it does so and the manufacturer offers to sell it at cheap rates, you are getting a bargain deal. However, if the tyres do not meet the set standards and fails in the industrial tests as well, you should never buy them.
Some customers simply prefer to buy products from well established brands like Michelin, Yokohama, Pirelli, Bridgestone and other similar renowned brands. While everyone has their own personal preferences, they need to know that brand name does not always guarantee quality or performance. Some of the top tire manufacturers are known to have their products recalled due to faults.
On the other hand, the lesser known are brands are criticised for their safety and quality. However, it is not just wrong but plain ignorant. There is no problem, or any risk associated with the lesser known brands. These brands do not enjoy the same revenues as the top brands. Hence, they cannot market themselves as much as the bigger brands.
However, when it comes to quality and safety, the lesser known brands are giving the top brands a run for their money. Consider the example of Chinese brands. They are lesser known outside China because many of these brands did not start exporting outside China until recently. However, they are widely used in China and there have been no complaints from the Chinese manufacturers against them.
Final Thoughts
We all know that Chinese products are cheap due to various reasons. Calling these cheap tyres low in quality or a safety hazard is outright wrong and completely unjustified. Just because a brand is willing to decrease its profit margin does not mean that the product has faults. We need to let go off this mentality and start looking at the ground reality.
Therefore, as long as a product meets the required standards set by the relevant authorities and passes the required industrial tests, there is nothing to worry about.
