Porsche's New Panamera EV Challenges Mercedes AMG EQS 53 and Lucid Air
After successfully completing the launch of the all-electric Taycan, Porsche is ready to take a step closer to the EV market. The German automaker plans to speed up its electric transition by introducing Porsche Panamera EV, a full-size luxury car.
As part of its plan, Porsche launch the all-electric Taycan in 2019 and so far the reviews are positive. In 2021, Porsche sold more than 300,000 vehicles, of which 41.296 were Taycan vehicles. In fact, last year the EV selling number was higher than the automaker’s legendary Porsche 911 vehicle.
This success has continued into 2022, with Porsche delivering 18,900 all-electric Taycans so far. With its continued success, Porsche is accelerating its efforts to develop electric vehicles. The company aims to sell 50% of the electric vehicle, including hybrids by 2025. But, by 2030, the automakers want 80% of new electric vehicle sales.
To achieve this goal, the Porsche company decided to make some new electric models, like Macan, which was the second biggest selling SUV.
According to the resources, the company was considering the production of the Macan EV before the end of 2023. Moreover, the company also plans to produce the electric Macan at the same output as the gas-powered Macan, annually producing over 80,000 vehicles.
There is another report that the Porsche company is planning to introduce an electric Panamera alongside an updated Porsche Taycan electric vehicle.
Porsche Panamera EV About To Join Automakers EV portfolio
According to the latest news, Porsche will launch both the new Panamera EV and electric Taycan on Volkswagen’s Scalable Systems Platform (SSP), which will be used for its electric vehicles after 2026.
On top of this, Porsche will develop its own SSP sport structure to support “Porsche-specific models. This platform is low on the cabin floor, which lowers the center of gravity and gives it a high-performance feel.
Despite the fact that the Porsche Panamera won't arrive until a few years from now, here are the latest developments we know so far:
- Volkswagen is set to bring its SSP platform to the market in 2026, and Porsche plans to introduce its sports platform in 2027.
- Though the launch has yet to be confirmed, there are rumors of a longer wheelbase, similar to the Panamera sold in China. In such a case, the Porsche Panamera EV will directly compete with Mercedes AMG EQS 53 and Lucid Air.
- The Porsche Taycan has a wheelbase of 2900mm and is 4963mm long. This is likely to be shorter than the Panamera. The Panamera in China has a wheelbase of 3100MM and a length of 5199MM, making it an ideal match for the Porsche.
Additionally, A transition to luxury electric vehicles will be critical for Porsche in the future, as several automakers are expected to introduce high-performance electric models in the coming years.
