Which Tire is Better, Kumho or Yokohama?
This is the latest addition to our tire comparison series. In this post, PitStopArabia has decided to review Yokohama tyres and Kumho tyres. One thing that is different in this blog post is that we will only be comparing two tires, instead of the usual four.
Yokohama G051 vs. Kumho Road Venture AT51
The Yokohama G051 a highway all-season tyre. It is ideal for small to large CUVs and SUVs. The tires are not designed for extended use on off-road surfaces. Therefore, if you like to drive your SUV through mud or mountains, consider an alternate set of tires. For everyday driving, the G051 provides numerous benefits.
Firstly, the tire’s design and construction prevent uneven wear. Hence, the tires provide excellent value for money. Another great thing about them is their wet surface traction. The tread is designed in a way that it prevents water from accumulating underneath the tread. It prevents hazards like hydroplaning, something which is known to be the cause of major accidents.
In addition to this, the G051 comes with cross grooves and rounded shoulders. These two are responsible for ensuring stability while cornering and short braking distances. The only thing that we don’t like about these tires is their deep snow traction and comfortability. PitStopArabia & many customers feel that the tires should have been quieter.
Unlike the G051, the Kumho Road Venture AT51 allows you to venture into any terrain without fear of losing traction or compromising on performance. The AT51 offers a perfect balance between on-road and off-road use. The AT51 is built with a dual silica compound that is resistant to protruding rocks and other damages that are common from off-road use.
Thus, the dual silica compound helps increase the tire’s durability to a great extent. That’s not all as Kumho has equipped the AT51 with numerous other features too. The tire comes with an integrated full depth stepped circumferential grooves that increase traction on loose surfaces like the sand.
The symmetric tread pattern features a variable pitch design that helps keep the noise at bearable levels. Additionally, the tread compound is heat resistance. This prevents premature wear and tear. Lastly, the tire can also be used in extreme weather conditions like heavy snow and mud. Overall, the Kumho AT51 is a perfect tire.
Winner
It is difficult to find anything wrong with the Kumho AT51. It beats the G051 by a long margin in different aspects. For instance, the AT51 is super silent as compared to the G051. It is something that is supported by customers too. Similarly, G051 is not designed for extended off-road use, while the AT51 allows you to venture into any terrain. Therefore, the overall winner is AT51.
Wrap Up
This concludes our article. We hope that you find the information beneficial and that it can help you decide which tire is better. When it comes to pricing, they are evenly priced. However, larger-sized AT51 tires are more expensive. It would be best if you undertook a comprehensive needs assessment before deciding which tire to buy. If you are not an off-roader, the G051 is more than capable of meeting your needs. On the other hand, AT51 is perfect for off-road enthusiasts.
