30% of UAE Residents Will Shift to Electric Cars, Research Shows
There is a worldwide trend towards the adoption of electric vehicles, as more individuals are supporting environmentally friendly transportation.
The advancement of EV technology is being accelerated by governments throughout the region. Saudi Arabia, the largest economy in the region, has committed to having 30% of Riyadh's automobiles be electric by 2030 and to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
The UAE is quickly transitioning to EV adoption, going from having the highest percentage of EV charging facilities to replacing 20% of the country's vehicle fleet with EVs.
According to recent research, the public's interest in electric vehicles has grown over the past four years. In addition, almost 30% of citizens plan to buy an electric vehicle in UAE to support the nation's environmental policy.
When it comes to global readiness for electric mobility, the UAE in particular comes in the category of ‘Emerging EV Markets’. Around 95% of the UAE's EV industry is made up of passenger vehicles because of a rise in car-rental services and the limited use of commercial vehicles for logistics and transportation.
According to Mark Austin, general manager of Audi Abu Dhabi, the interest in EVs has grown exponentially over time. He added that rising gas prices have undoubtedly accelerated consumers' shift in attitude toward EV adoption.
UAE Electric Vehicle Market
According to the global electric mobility readiness index 2022 compiled by Arthur D Little, the UAE electric vehicle market, is expected to grow at an annual compound rate of 30% between 2022 and 2028.
The reason behind this high surge is that residents of the UAE believe that in long run, EVs provide more value as compared to fuel-powered cars. There are reportedly 325 EV charging stations in UAE. It is expected that there will be a hike in electric vehicle sales in UAE in the coming years.
Middle Eastern governments are becoming more accepting of EV technology on the roads, with the UAE leading the region in terms of readiness for electric transportation”, Arthur D. Little (ADL) a leading management consulting firm.
By 2030, the UAE government forecasts that there will be more than 40,000 EVs on the road.
In addition, Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi plans to build a 25,000-square-meter facility. This facility will be used for the production, Research and development, and vehicle testing of electric vehicles.
The UAE government wants to educate the public to better understand the scope and potential of e-mobility through the Global Electric Mobility Readiness Index (Gemrix). They also wish to assist automotive firms by offering them information on the readiness of the e-mobility market.
